Suit of sails for Sirocco 26 wanted

hi! I'm looking for a set of sail for my 26 foot Prout Sirocco which I have just built ran out of money now so please help!
john.cleasby62@tiscali.co.uk

I recently joined your owners group, although I am not an owner yet.

I would like to buy a Prout ranger 31, I am told there was a 27 made as well.

So far I have been unable to find any information on this design

 Regards,

Martin Lloyd (London UK)

I am wondering if anybody has found a solution to cracking gelcoat in the water tanks.  The gelcoat in our water tanks has cracked in a few places due to age and flexing of the hulls.  I am concerned about osmosis from the water tanks into the hull -  I have tried to find potable water tank safe gelcoat to no avail - has anyone found a solution to this problem ?

thanks,
 Geoff.

Well, I am now the proud owner of a 1984 Prout Snow Goose with the new name of "Vida Del Mar". It needs some work but I love the boat and I want to think Steve, Mike, and Enrique for their help in bringing it back to Crystal River from Miami. We had a great time during the six days. This was my first trip (hopefully not my last) of any length on a sailboat and I loved it. We sailed north east then north west to the St. Lucie Inlet, motored to Lake Okeechobee, sailed across the Lake then motored to Ft. Myers, then sailed north to Crystal River. Great Trip, Thanks guys. During the leg from Ft Myers to Crystal River we had steady SE winds of 17+ K winds with gust to 28. The boat handled it with ease. However, at the entrance to CR the marker on the north side of the channel had no light and was missing on our plotter chart. Our rechargeable spot ran out immediately before so we missed the channel by a few feet and the attached picture is the result. My friends cane out to meet us and we had a great party while we waited for the high tide. Thanks for the welcoming party. I need to obtain the drawings of a sister ship of my boat with twin inboards. My plan is to switch from the current single diesel to twin electric drives and with a center mounted LP fueled genset. I want the propeller shafts to be positioned correctly. Any help with the plans would be greatly appreciated. More after my next trip. Jim      ---  jphillips48@tampabay.rr.com

My husband and I are getting ready to retire and hope
to do some cruising both in the French canals and perhaps down the Danube. We also then need to sail it
back to the Caribbean.
We have considered the Prout Snowgoose (both the original and the Elite) and are
wondering which model would be more suitable. Myhusband thinks the Elite would have trouble getting
through some of the French locks. I would like aslightly larger boat and if possible two engines to
deal with strong currents on some rivers. I know somemodels of the Elite have two engines, but am not sure
about the original model.

Would any of your readers have any thoughts?
Many thanks,
Tish and Dave (Baltimore, MD)

My name Is Ron Hawkins I have been living in South Africa since 1976 unfortunately it is time to leave. We are in the process of selling up here after which we are going to return to the U.K. Before coming to S.A. I had a 24 foot cabin cruiser for several years but have always wanted to sale.

We have pushed around a lot of ideas over returning to the U.K. and have decided if it's allowed, to live permanently on a boat. We have done a lot of research about various craft and have decided a catamaran suits the bill. I like the Prout Snowgoose and think this boat would be suitable for our purpose's.

Unfortunately the exchange rate between the two countries are not very favourable for us but we should have between 100 to 150 thousand pounds on arrival in the U.K. and hope to be there within the next 3 months.

I would very much appreciate advice on purchase of such a boat, availablibility of permanent moorings and approx cost and possible contact with any members with the Prout Owners Association who might have undertaken the same ideas as us.

I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Best regards.

Just a quick email on the chance that you may know someone who can help me.
For a number of years I have owned a small, Prout and Sons, folding dingy (1950s build I think). I have given it plenty of love, varnish and attention over the time but now my wife insists that we need more space for our children and it must go.
I was wondering if you might know of any enthusiasts who may be interested in purchasing it - otherwise it will go on ebay.
The boat is in lovely condition and has one well made repair (see photos).
I am based in Southampton, please pass on my details to any interested parties.
Best regards

Hi Michael,
I've seen, there's an owner of a Prout Quest 31 in Henley, which is 10 miles from Reading, where I am, could you maybe make contact between us?
I'm possibly in the process of buying one!
cheers,
Marc

For all Prout owners, I can recommend Canin Engineering,  Ron made a lot of stainless for Prout boats and I believe he has a lot of drawings still, he made all the stainless for my boat, he's reasonable and first class service. contact Ron on 01268 544897

I am trying to find out where I can get some of the cream gelcoat that Prout used in their hulls. I don’t want to try and match it as the two times I have done that the shade has been wrong. I was told by Broadblue that the Prout gelcoats came from Scott Bader but nobody there knows as it is too long ago. Has anybody got a Ral number or Scott Bader part number that I could use?

I want to contact an italian guy which name I d'ont remember, who owns a Prout 50 named SOLO 2, with italian flag. We meet in Siracusa, Sicylia, in the summer of 2005, but because of strong winds we needed both to leave the harbour before changing contacts. Please put this message in the message board.

Hi,
I'm intersested in a Prout Escale Catamaran. Have don a lot of cruising in mono hulls and are used to average 7 knots.

Question is if the Prout Escale can make 7 knots as an average 168Nm/24hours? Any owner who have an idea?

I was looking in the ARC results from 2001 - 2006 and have to say I wasa little bit disappointed about their performance. But have also to
admit that they where not that many.
The other question is building quality? Most reviews brag about quality and that they are fantastic Blue Water
boats. That was actually the reason why I started looking at the Prout designs. But then I ended up
at he Cats Pyjamas web page and I got a little bit confused as he is so negative and seems to do anything to spread his word. I also know that
sometimes there are people you never can satisfy. Would appreciate other owners comments about quality and what to look for?

If someone would have a boat for sale please let me know.

Thanks,

i am considering a 30-40ft prout but due to limited funds can only look at a boat older than 20 years. are there any publications/books/cd/dvd etc that would be able to guide me thru any design changes up to the mid eighties.

Feb. 16, 2007 - Bespoke Fabrications UK

I have recently had a bad experience with a company called Bespoke Fabrications based in the south of England. I would like to warn others of the dangers of using this company and, of course, if anyone has had a good experience with this company, I would like to hear about it.

Firstly I contacted them to build me a boarding ladder for my Prout Snowgoose.  I was told that the company made all the fittings for Prout when they were still in business and my ladder would be no problem.  The owner of the company, Danny Price, told me that it would only take two weeks from receipt of my £200 deposit.  Two months later, I am fighting to get my deposit back!

Bespoke Fabrications could not make the ladder and finally owned up to the fact.  Unfortunately they hardly ever reply to emails and never reply to telephone messages.  At the time of writing, I am still out of pocket by £200 and go back to my boat in Sardinia at the end of the week.  I am fully expecting this matter to end up in the Small Claims Court... be warned if you are thinking of using Bespoke!

Hello Michael

Message to Debbie and Clive, from Cloud Nine: If you come to Lisbon you can stay in Marina de Alcantara where stays our Vesper (there is enough room) or you can drop the anchor (free) in Seixal, 8 miles up the River Tagus. It is very safe, and you have a fast ferry to Lisbon. You also can sail up the river about 40 miles and discover lots of nice places to stay. You can put me questions, I'll be glad to answer.

Cheers,

José

We just bought a Prout Snowgoose (non-elite) and are in the process of getting things sorted out with the Canadian government - to do this we need some drawings for tonnage calculations - can you pass on a note to the owners of snowgeese to see if anyone  has :
   - line plane
   - set of offsets
   - general arrangement plans

Once we have this we will have a name for the boat etc (Was Wildcat in the US).

thanks,
  Geoff.

I notice you have a message from a fellow member, Geoff, who is trying to get details in order to register his boat in Canada. Although we don't have all the information he needs, having just gone through this process perhaps
we can be of some help to him. Feel free to share our email with him .

I'm glad you have started a Prout owners' group. Thanks

Hi Geoff. Do email me for the address of Chris and Liz..... Michael

I am still looking for ideas for a cockpit table and I have decided to try liquid rubber on the gaiter on my drive.  In addition I would like to hear from anyone who knows firstly; the supplier of a good strong boarding ladder and secondly; the supplier of replacement 'grey' rubber insert for the rubbing strake.  I would think that some of the owners who have fitted there own boats out would be able to point me in the right direction.

Cockpit Table for Snowgoose

I would like to make a table for the cockpit on my Snowgoose 37' Elite but don't know where to start.  Does anyone have any good ideas or photographs of a table that works?

Sonic Drive

I have a small leak from the rubber gaiter on my sonic drive, it looks a hell of a job to replace.  Has anyone had to takle this job?  I must admit that I am thinking of cleaning it really well and painting it with liquid rubber.

'I'd also like advice too please
Cracking on the bubble on a '97 Elite 37. I believe this is a common problem and I've seen it on other Elites with the bubble.
Any ideas on how to repair it or is it just cosmetic as this part will flex?

Has anyone got a really good failsafe way of rebedding the windows so they don't leak?

We had all the windows renewed on our Prout Quest 31; they had been bedded onto some black gunge sealent.  Very soon they all leaked significantly.  Thought the sealent too thin (at about 3mm thick).  Was recommended self-adhesive closed cell foam 6mm thick.  Worked OK at first then leaked.  The sun plays havoc on the adhesive under the black plastic window, and very soon the combination of window expansion and foam sliding about when the adhesive is soft meant gaps rapidly appeared and water got in.

Now planning on rebedding on 6-8mm or perhaps more thick black sealent, with spacers between window and coachroof to ensure gap remains constant.

Also at present the windows are just bolted to the superstructure, with a wooden strip hiding the bolts after fitting.  The wooden strips being relatively substantial help give the window area some rigidity, but they are not through bolted - i.e. bolted through the glassfibre and windows - as I believe Prout originally planned.  Is this a correct method - or what is the best?  We're fed up with leaky windows, and tided of rebedding them, and would really appreciate other peoples comments and experiences!

Chris - Seaquince

Hello Michael

I am in the process of purchasing a Prout Sirocco, about to make an offer subject to survey. I would really like to find any boat test or review reports on the Sirocco. Can you help and are you able to tell me how long did Prout produce the Sirocco/26.

Kind regards

Simon Taylor

Simon hi, There is an interesting article about Sirocco 26 posted on the specifications board. Email me if you want the original sent on..

Hi All,

Debbie and I are heading for the Med in April 07 in Cloud Nine and we are looking for advice from those that have done it and ideas on where to go etc.

General plan so far is to head for Falmouth/Scillies first and then head for Northern Spain, Lisbon and into the Med ending up in Italy.

Cheers,

Clive.

How about a section for sailing the Prout and how to get the best from her?

Having not sailed one before this would be really useful as I'm sure there are little idiosyncrasy that can be tweaked to get the best from her.

Cheers,

Clive.
