It is situated in the small 'spar' town of Saujon in Charente Maritime and only 15 minutes from the beach resort of Royan with it's fishing port, market, shops and marina. The famous 'spas', where the people come to bathe in the 'medicinal' waters, are open all year round. The river Seudre passes by the town and the port area was once full of merchant ships who came up on the tide to discharge cargo for the area and take on fruit, vegetables and other farm produce. It now houses a small marina and some nice cafe's! The biggest agricultural market in the area is held on the 2nd Monday of each month, with stalls occupying the wide boulevard up to the train station with it's link to Paris and the Channel Tunnel.
