Genoa sail on snowgoose

Post by mikedefieslife »

I have a snowgoose 35 and am looking at getting a new genoa of lighter material rather than the 7oz dacron I have at the moment. My current genoa is 36m2 and its tracks are behind the mast on the edges of the cockpit.

It is my understanding that the original genoa for the snowgoose should be 29.5m2 with tracks on the edges of the coachroof ahead of the mast. While the staystail also uses coachroof mounted track more inboard.

Can anyone shed any light on whether this is correct? I'm leaning towards a smaller genoa using the original tracks. This should give a flatter sail shape for when the wind is forward of the beam, and perform better when using the staystail and genoa together.

Also if anyone has dimensions of the genoa for a 34/35 that would be handy too as not every sailmaker has them and those that do won't pass them on.

Cheers,
