We have just purchased a 1972 Snowgoose 34/35 called Stray Cat. Her new home port is Cape Coral, FL. She has wheel steering but uses wires instead of hydraulics. Unfortunately age hasn't been too kind and the area where the tiller slide in located at the stern has extensive rot and the pulley system in that area has been replaced by a home made system at some point. I was wondering if anyone had pictures or a diagram of the original setup or any pointers on repair/replacing this setup.
Also has anyone ever replaced the wire system with a hydraulic system?
Many thanks.

Update to the problem:
We removed all the wood and applied several coats of resin to fill the old screw holes and smooth off the area where the original wood had been bonded to the fiberglass. Using King Starboard a new mounting was constructed and attached. The slider that controls the rudder was screwed to that and 2 new idler pulleys were located on the port side. The original idler pulley on the starboard side was overhauled and reused. Last step will be to attached the new wires next weekend and go for a sea trail. Would attach pictures but the file size is too large. I have plenty of pictures should any one have a similar issue.
