chocking up a snowgoose to work on the keels

Post by john&nicolawalters »

Does anyone know where to place chocks apart from under the keels when you need access to repair/strenghten the keels themselves.

We have done repairs on our keels and have simply blocked her up as you would normally, fixed the parts of the keel we could get to, then shift the blocks over. The shifting of the blocks was done by using a car jack and a metal plate - this allowed us to lift up one side of the boat and shift the blocks around. (we did still have the skeg blocked up)

Two images of our blocking can be seen at: https://sites.google.com/site/svgeru/

Let me know if that helps.

Geoff.

Hi, I fitted 10mm steel keel shoes by sitting my hull on 4 towers of blocks each one just ahead and astern of the GRP keels. I also re-sprayed complete hull so she sat on 4 towers for 6 months. No damage perfectly okay.
