Rubbing Strake - white, anyone got a little bit.

Post by Keith Nicholson »

Our Prout 45 has a white PVC rubbing strake all round which is set in an aluminium channel. Over the years the PVC has shrunk longitudinally leaving gaps at the ends of each section of about 20/30mm. It would seem that the PVC section was produced by Wilks around 1997 but they no longer make the section in white, only black.
O.K. hang the expense and replace with black, one might say - but Wilks are in the U.K. and our boat is in Turkey, this nearly doubles the cost. The much cheaper option would be to obtain a short length of the correct section in white and cut it into the appropriate length fillets and fill the gaps at the ends with these.
The only problem is, now it only comes in black!
The cross section shape is similar that of the Greek letter 'omega' or a bridge shape. The maximum height is 20mm base to apex, the widest part of the base, including the 'feet' of the 'omega' is 42mm, the height of the 'feet' (they fit into the aluminium channel) is 7mm and the width at the top of the feet, at the point where the aluminium channel, retains it, is 28mm. The thickness of the PVC which forms the section is 5mm.

Does anyone have or know of the whereabouts of a short (1m would be fine but 250mm would do the job) piece of said material please.!!! :(
