hauling out...

Hi,
On our Quest 31 we put the slings just forward/aft the keels coming to the crane hook at a point above the boat so that the slings go over the hull in line with the two transverse bulkheads. This ensures that the hulls do not deform inwards when the boat is lifted - as happened one time when the slings were not positioned correctly, which was scary and worrying to say the least. We have not had the boat in a traveling hoist where the slings are held apart above the boat.

Hope this helps,

Regards, Chris.

Sling placement

On my Snowgoose Elite the lifting location is just like for Chris' boat. Just forward and aft of the keel. If your boat doesn't have them, I would suggest marking the best location forward and aft. You can use something like a small racing stripe, etc.
